Retaining Wall Construction

A retaining wall is any type of structure designed to hold back soil/rock.  Many times retaining walls are used for erosion control, to enclose a garden area, or as a means of landscaping and beautifying a particular area.  If you've ever visited the Western North Carolina area, you will soon realize the importance of retaining wall construction, particularly in the more mountainous areas.

Retaining walls can be built out of a variety of materials, including wood, concrete, vinyl, steel, brick, or stone.  Railroad ties used to be the most popular method for building retaining walls, but because they decay over time, rock and stone have become more of the favorite.

Fletcher Grading Contractors specialize in three types of retaining walls; boulder, segmental, and Redi-Rock retaining walls.  Boulder-based retaining walls, as shown on the right utilize the rocks and boulders found on the property.  They enhance the beauty of an area, while providing the necessary functionality.  Many other types of rock/stone are available for constructing a retaining wall, if none can be used from the property.

Fletcher Grading Contractors utilize Redi-Rock products for many of their constructed retaining walls, as seen on the left.  This completed project was for a restaurant business in Leicester, NC.

Segmental retaining walls are fast-becoming the most popular method of retaining wall construction because it is a mortar-less system.  Segmental retaining walls are intended for shorter walls and can add an attractive touch to a landscaping project.
